A Scene to Remember
-6-
Burg was a simple village which had just been settled by Southerners.
[In the background is a map of Caldor Isle with Burg, and possibly the
White Dragon Cave and Sea Hag’s Hut, marked.]
[A traveler, obviously a young-looking Ghaleon, is going through a
forest. Several boys are hiding in a tree, watching. 'Boy 3' looks like a very
young Dyne, while ‘Boy 1’ is a young Noah, Alex’s father.]
Boy 1: Who's that thin guy?
Boy 2: I dunno
Boy 3: Me neither
Boy 1: Is he a traveler?
Boy 2: Look at his pale face!
Boy 3: Let's give him a little surprise...
Boy 2: Man that guy looks so scrawny
Boy 1: He'll run off crying 'waah'!
Boy 3: Shh, watch me...
[He jumps down holding a tomato in hand.]
-7-
[The traveler flips the boy around, bringing the tomato landing on his
head.]
-smack!-
-plop-
Boy 3: ......
[We switch to a scene inside a log cabin.]
Grandfather: This awful little brat!
-pow!-
Boy 3: Oww!
-8-
[The grandfather thumps the boy on the head, while the grandmother
bows frantically in apology.]
Grandfather: You mischievous brat... Now, apologize to this priest!
Boy 3: I did apologize...
Traveler: Hm, I didn't hear anything
Boy 3: ......
Boy 3: I'M SORRY!!
[The grandfather pounds the table.]
-smack-
Grandfather: Well! You can think over this while you go without dinner tonight!
Grandmother: [to traveler] Well, have you been travelling all this way by
yourself?
Traveler: ...Yes. Right now I'm alone.
[The boy is about to leave the room; he has a scrape on his elbow.]
Traveler: Did I cause that wound back there?
Boy 3: ! No, it's nothing
Traveler: I doubt that. Let me see.
Boy 3: Oww!
-9-
[The traveler holds his hand above the wound.]
Traveler: May the blessings of the Goddess Althena...
Boy 3: ......
[The boy runs out of the room.]
Grandfather: Hey! Aren't you going to thank the priest!?
Traveler: By the way, may I take lodging in your barn tonight?
Grandfather: !! No, not the barn! These days there are many awful things about.
A couple of our animals there have disappeared.
-10-
[The traveler is sleeping in the barn nonetheless. Something is
sneaking up on the chickens.]
-crack-
-shuffle shuffle-
-11-
[The traveler yet again catches the boy by the ankle.]
Traveler: You again! ... You're hopeless, aren't you?
-12-
[The following day, a few people are gathered to see off the
traveler.]
Traveler: Thank you very much.
Grandmother: No, thank you! You've helped treat our wounds, prepare medicine...
We should be thanking you.
Traveler: I don't see your grandson around...
Grandfather: He's reflecting on what he did in the barn right now.
[We see a frame of a post in the barn with broken rope around it.]
Grandmother: Take care on the roads.
Grandfather: Where will you go from here?
Traveler: Well... First, I'm going to explore this island. And then...
-13-
[The traveler has already left. He's at a spring as he notices the boy
following him.]
Traveler: Go back. It's still not too far for you to return by yourself.
-14-
Traveler: Don't follow me. I can't look after you.
-pouring rain-
[A storm starts up. The traveler is inside a cave, while the boy is
sheltering himself outside underneath a giant leaf.]
Traveler: There will be a storm tonight. Come into this cave and rest.
[The boy comes inside. Bread lands in his hands.]
-poof-
Traveler: Take some bread. In exchange for that, once it clears up, then return
to Burg.
-15-
[The boy is taken aback by the offer, then determined to reject it. He
leaves the bread uneaten and curls up to sleep, his back turned to the
traveler. The traveler’s back is also turned to the boy, and he covers his face
with his hand]
-wind howling outside-
Boy: ......I like Burg. Grandpa and grandma are both nice. But, that's it. I...
I...
-16-
Boy: If I stay here, I won't know about anything beyond the village
fence. Not the extent of the skies, not the floor of the seas, not the peaks of
the mountains! I want to see everything in this world, not leaving anything
out!
Traveler (to himself): ...Such a hopeless boy. So very hopeless...
