LOCATION: TOWN OF IEN

We're back in the Dormitory. Ellie says that it seems everyone is still upset about how they took it upon themselves to venture out to Skull Island. Senia comes over with news about Ien's next destination:

SENIA: Did you hear? Ien is going to Meria, the island of the merfolk!

LENA: Huh? Didn't you know? They've been saying that all day. You can already get there by boat.

So the girls decide to go to Meria, the island of the merfolk. After all, as Lena says, they can reflect on their mistakes any time, but now's the time to try out some of Meria's food! Ellie says that they can go to the Port of Ien and take a small boat from there to the island.

Go down to the first floor and exit the Dormitory.

Ant and the boys come up and say they're going to get to Meria before the girls do. They then leave.

MAGIC (OPTIONAL)| Go to Brune's Classroom and talk with Prof Brune twice. He teaches Lena the Psi Storm spell.

MAGIC

Lena - Psi Storm| Strong gust of wind

OPTIONAL| Go into Brune's Classroom and check the wavy-looking plant on the left side.

Prof Brune explains that this is some seaweed that only grows near Meria. He warns the girls that they should only say mean things to it. So... Lena turns to the plant and starts saying how it's such a cute little seaweed, when it responds negatively. Prof Brune explains that this plant senses emotions, and responds with the opposite feeling it receives.

OPTIONAL| Read some of the books in Ralph's Library.

If you read the red book on the first floor, it has some information about merfolk: Merfolk can swim through the water at ten to twenty times the speed of a human. Ellie doesn't think the book is quite true, though.

If you read the blue book on the second floor, it has a lot of different magic spells listed in it. There are a couple of names on the cover; one of them is worn off: it looks like "Memp... Mempha?" It's too worn-off to read.

OPTIONAL| Talk to some of the people in the School Tower to find out a little more.

Prof Emma is still not pleased with how the girls went to Skull Island on their own. She asks that, if they choose to go to Meria, that they not stir up any trouble while there.

The student on the top floor (in the Dean's office) mentions that the merfolk use the fin on their back to swim quickly through water.

Exit Ien by the southwest and go to the Port.

DIRECTIONS

From Ien, go a little southeast and cross the bridge south. From there, go south and a little bit southwest. Descend the stairs down to the Port.

LOCATION: PORT

At the Port, go down to the pier and check the small boat there.

The girls hop in and set off for Meria. The boat's pretty fast--maybe it's powered by magic?

LOCATION: MERIA

The girls enter Meria. Lena and Ellie are pleased with the white sands and blue sky. Senia doesn't see the big deal. Lena suggests that perhaps Senia's been around Layla too much and forgot how to enjoy herself.

OPTIONAL| Go a little bit north from where you landed and check the boat there. (Come on, it'll be funny.)

Ellie comments that it seems that someone else has already arrived. Senia sees that, written on the side, it says "For Use Only by Ant". Lena takes her frustration out on the boat.

Talk to Kule twice (at the north end of town, near the gated tower).

This is Ant, Rick, and Kule's first visit to Meria. Kule wonders what the large tower in front of him is for. The second time you talk, he mentions that all the merfolk here are acting weird.

Talk to a few merfolk in town. (You need to talk to two or three before Lena comments on how they are acting weird, like Kule said. The quickest way is to talk to the man closest to the harbor, and the woman in the northwest house with the vase on the door.)

All the merfolk seem upset at the humans. They all refuse to talk with you. Some say that humans--and thieves--aren't allowed in Meria, and they were foolish to trust them.

Go to the house in the southwest corner.

As you approach, a merfolk emerges from the water, complaining about Ien and the humans.

Enter the house in the southwest corner and talk to the man inside.

The man tells 'shorty' and the others to leave. Lena holds back saying anything rude in response. The man continues, saying something about the merfolk's talisman being gone.

Exit the house.

Once they exit, Lena drops the act and says that they should just go back to Ien; she's got a bad feeling about this place. Ellie and Senia agree.

Head for the harbor (the northeast corner).

CINEMA

As the girls exit, another girl approaches them.

???: Are you people from Ien?

LENA: ...who are you?

SHIELA: I'm Shiela. Do you mind if I talk to you?

ELLIE: To us?

SHIELA: Yes, I have an interest in how humans live...

SENIA: I have an interest in how humans live, too!

The girls start talking to each other. Senia is relating the story of what happened on Skull Island inside the haunted shipwreck. Lena adds that this is just the kind of thing Senia does; she herself is rather weak, so she doesn't do much adventuring (Ellie: Huh?). Shiela agrees, saying that's the reason she always has to run away whenever she encounters a monster.

Anyway, Shiela sees now that they're not bad humans after all; she likes them. Senia says they like Shiela, too. Senia decides to show her the cool thing she found in the haunted shipwreck!

As soon as she pulls out the jewel, Shiela backs away. Her father and two other merfolk come in. They say Senia is a thief, and now she's even trying to steal Shiela away. Shiela says that's all wrong; she believes Senia. She tells the girls they need to escape. After they do escape, Shiela's father apologizes to Shiela, saying that he was afraid she would try to run after the girls.

Ant and the boys decide now's a good time to leave, when they encounter Shiela's father and the others--who want to toss them all in the Shrine's jail. So the boys try to hightail it out of there--emphasis on the trying part.

LOCATION: PORT

The girls return to the Port of Ien. Eventually. Ellie realizes the problem apparently lies with the jewel they found--there must be some connection between it and the "Merfolk's Talisman" that the merfolk were talking about. They should go back to Ien and ask one of the professors who might know more about Meria.

Exit the Port via the north and return to Ien.

DIRECTIONS

From the Port, go north and a little northeast. Cross the bridge and go northwest from there back to town.

ASIDE: LEARNING COMBINED MAGIC

COMBINED MAGIC| Before you go back to Ien, now is a good time to pick up some combined magic spells by combining spells in combat (on the field between the Port and Ien is good, as the enemies are weak and good target practice). Remember that you have to:
(1) Use two or more magic spells that can be combined in battle
(2) Get a message saying that those spells can be combined after battle
(3) Talk with Dean Steel (multiple times) to learn the new spell.

MAGIC (OPTIONAL)| In a single battle, use: (Ellie) Temptation + (Lena) Temptation. Enter Ien and talk to Dean Steel in the School Tower multiple times, and he'll teach Ellie+Lena the Magical Charm spell.

MAGIC

Ellie+Lena - Magical Charm| Using cuteness to charm

MAGIC (OPTIONAL)| In a single battle, use: (Ellie) Temptation + (Lena) Tension. Enter Ien and talk to Dean Steel in the School Tower multiple times, and he'll teach Ellie+Lena the Lovely Cheergirl spell.

MAGIC

Ellie+Lena - Lovely Cheergirl| Increases everyone's attack and wisdom

MAGIC (OPTIONAL)| In a single battle, use: (Lena) Shield + (Senia) Light Ray. Enter Ien and talk to Dean Steel in the School Tower multiple times, and he'll teach Lena+Senia the Lens Ray spell.

MAGIC

Lena+Senia - Lens Ray| Strong focused beam of light

LOCATION: TOWN OF IEN

OPTIONAL| Talk to some of the professors in Ien about the Merfolk's Talisman.

Iason-sensei says that he believes the Merfolk's Talisman is something used to control the flow of water by the merfolk, as a means of defense. If you talk to him again, he adds that it's said that the talisman is an item that, when used, allows a merfolk to transform into a guardian spirit of the sea to protect the village.

Prof Kent doesn't know anything about it. Profs Brune, Terena, and Emma all recommend that you talk with Prof Ralph.

If you talk to Prof Emma, Senia and Lena explain what happened, that the people in Meria are angry and accusing humans of being thieves. Prof Emma isn't sure why that is, but she says she'll speak with the Dean about this matter.

If you talk to Dean Steel, Senia and Lena explain again what happened, that the people in Meria are angry and accusing humans of being thieves. He's not sure why, either. Steel says that he will have a meeting with the leader of Meria to sort this out.

Go to Ralph's Library and talk with Prof Ralph.

Ralph explains that the Merfolk's Talisman is a kind of charm that keeps away monsters. This talisman in particular has the power to protect all of Meria. Senia shows the jewel they had; Prof Ralph says that her possession of it is theft. Lena explains that they just found it on Skull Island; they didn't steal it.

Anyway, Ralph confirms that this definitely is the Merfolk's Talisman; that's why the girls were chased when they were escaping Meria. The pirates from the haunted ship must have stolen it. He recommends that Lena should give herself over to them. Then, if they throw her to the bottom of the ocean, Ralph and the other professors will be able to help her back up. ,,,kidding. But seriously, Ralph recommends that they go to the School Tower and inform the Dean.

Go to the School Tower, top floor, and enter Dean Steel's office.

Both Dean Steel and Glen are in the office. Glen says that he's already spoken with the leader of Meria and learned what's happened. Senia gives them the jewel and says to return it to the merfolk, then she won't have to sacrifice herself. But, there's a problem...

The Dean says that the merfolk have also demanded that they hand over both the jewel -and- the girls. Senia is willing to go, but the Dean stops her. He's been talking with Prof Emma and Prof Brune on how to proceed. The merfolk are not enemies; they're supposed to be allies.

Prof Brune runs in with an urgent message: the merfolk have closed off their harbor, and they've taken hostage Ant and the boys--and Prof Emma. This changes the situation... Glen says that without the Merfolk's Talisman, their injured will not be able to heal themselves, and so this is a matter of life-and-death for them.

Senia asks the Dean to let them bear responsibility for this, and help to fix the problem. The Dean says it's not a matter of whose responsibility it is. He asks the girls to leave it to the adults here, and meanwhile, they should return to the Dormitory. Senia storms out.

Go to the first floor and exit the School Tower.

Senia says they have to go investigate this for themselves, and help solve the problem. Senia suggests that they first go back to Meria and talk with Shiela again. She'll understand.

Glen comes down. He understands what the girls intend on doing and hands back the jewel. He adds that freedom is important to this school; but, responsibility follows freedom like a shadow. The girls must learn that. Now, the rightful place for the jewel is the Shrine of Meria. There's an underground waterway that will lead there. He gives the girls a sea chart of Meria that will guide them to the waterway.

OPTIONAL| Enter the School Tower again and talk to Prof Brune on the first floor.

Brune is impressed that you're headed to Meria again (yes, he overheard). He says he won't tell anyone, and heads back to his class.

From Ien, the girls check the sea chart. There's a cave to the south of there, from where they'll be able to enter the Shrine.

LOCATION: MERIA UNDERGROUND

The girls disembark inside the underground waterway. It's time to hurry up and save everyone so Lena can try out some of Meria's delicious food already. Oh, and so that Prof Emma will be safe.

Go through the waterway until you find Shiela.

DIRECTIONS

B1: From the boat, go directly east and follow that path as it turns south, then east, then north. The path will lead straight to the stairs up.

1F: From the stairs, go north and then turn east to cross the small water channel. Continue going east until you see another small water channel. Continue going east across this one, then turn south. Keep going until you see another water channel. Go east through this one again. Go a little bit south and then all the way east along the wall. At the end, go a little north and then northwest. From there, go west, and at the next path north go all the way to the north. Then, go east and take the first path north. Take the next path you see going west and continue until you find someone on the ground.

They see that the girl on the ground is Shiela. Lena heals her. When she recovers, she's relieved that Senia and the others aren't upset. She explains that she overheard some that the others have gone to Ien in order to capture Senia and the girls. Something like that would ruin the relationship between Meria and Ien, says Ellie. Shiela responds, saying that's the reason she came through this undergroud channel, to tell Senia and the others: without the Merfolk's Talisman, the monsters who protect this shrine have gone mad.

The girls say that they've come here to return the talisman to the shrine, and so they should be able to fix what's gone wrong. Shiela says that, in the meantime, she'll go to stop the people of Meria from going overboard.

Continue through the waterway until you find Prof Emma.

DIRECTIONS

1F: From where you encountered Shiela, go south, then take the first path west a little bit, then take the first path back north. Keep going to the end, then turn west and go to the stairs up.

2F: From the stairs, go north, east, then south. At the intersection, go south all the way. Then go east across the water channel, From there, go south and then west all the way. At the end, go south all the way until the girls hear someone.

A voice calls out; they recognize it to be Prof Emma's. They run over to her and Ellie frees her. Lena and the others apologize for the trouble they've caused. Emma explains, though, that she'll remain here for now. It's not that she can't escape, but that it would be a sign of good faith with the merfolk if she chose to remain here until the situation is resolved. She still thanks you for your trouble (and heals you, at that). If you need to be healed again, you can revisit her.

Continue through the waterway until you find the Shrine.

DIRECTIONS

2F: From where Prof Emma is located, go a little bit north (out of her room) and then go a little bit east. Take the first path north (across the water), and from there go east all the way. Take the next path south all the way, and then go east all the way. From there, go north and northwest. Go a little bit west and take the path leading directly north. Go north, ignore the first path east, and keep going north. Turn a little bit to the east, then continue going north. Take the next path east across the waterway. From there, go south all the way, then east, and then go north and a little bit northeast to the stairs up.

3F: From the stairs, go west, then a little north and continue west all the way. Take the next path you see south, ignore the first path west, and keep going south all the way. Take the last path west, then take the next path south. From there, take the first path leading west, and keep going west all the way. Take the last path that goes south, and follow it south, a little west, then south again, and then east. Go a little bit north and then continue east. From there, go a little bit north and continue east again. Go a little south and then east across the water channel. Then, go a little north and east all the way. Take the next path north, and follow this as it goes north, then west, then north to the stairs up.

4F: From the stairs, go northeast and take the first path north across the water channel. Go a little east, and north again, then go west. Take the next path south, then west all the way. Take the next path you see north a little, then west, then north all the way. From there, follow the path west, then south all the way. Take the next path you see going east. Keep going east and take the next path you see going to the north. Go north a bit, then east, and back south. From there, take the next path southeast. From there, continue east and follow the path south, then back west. Keep going west and take the next path north. From there, go west, and then a little southwest to get to the stairs up.

5F: From the stairs, go east. Take the first path you see north. Follow this path as it goes west, then north, then back east. Take the very next path you see north and keep going until you reach the Shrine.

They finally reach the shrine. In front is an octopus-looking guardian.

BOSS BATTLE| Go up and defeat the Sea Monster.

Senia replaces the Merfolk's Talisman. Some of the merfolk, including Shiela's father and Shiela herself, come in and see that the girls have returned the talisman, just as Shiela said they would. Shiela runs up to Senia (Lena remarks that if Senia were a man, this would be quite an embarassing scene). Anyway, the merfolk apologize for their misunderstanding. Two of them then go to release the professor and the three students in the cells.

The leader of Meria approaches. He says that the girls have done just as Glen said they would, and he apologizes. Lena then suggests that they put in a good word for the girls to the Dean, in return for all of this.

CINEMA

The girls leave Meria by boat.

ELLIE: Thanks for everything

LENA: Yeah, it was fun!

SHIELA: Do you think we'll meet again someday?

SENIA: Of course! Ien can go anywhere!

SENIA: Later! ... We'll be back one day!
