Enter the town of Reza. As you pass through the gates, someone runs straight through your party, apologizes, and runs off. Being a little suspicious, Kyle asks Nall to check his pockets and you find you've been pickpocketed--the White Dragon Wings are missing. Then Kyle remembers: this is the city of thieves. Jessica asks Kyle what he intends on doing, and Kyle says that since Reza is a big place they need to start looking right now (ignore the fact that you're looking within town although the thief ran outside Reza). First, though, go into the first house on the left, through the doorway and up the hall to get a dragon feather. Outside on the western edge of town there's another chest surrounded by barrels; to get there walk a few tiles left right behind the house you just entered, up a bit, left a bit more, then up to get the mental drop inside. Also, upgrade your weapons and armour; I suggest: one Samurai Blade for Alex, Silver Chain for Kyle, Bateim Robe for Jessica, and Platinum Wrist for Jessica. |
Now, enter the bar on the north end of town; you'll look around and not see anyone like the guy who stole the White Dragon Wings, but up at the front counter Nall spies Laike once again. Talk to Laike three times; you'll get plenty of information out of him. First, he'll greet you and tell you to watch out in town--Nall tells him he's a little too late and Laike bursts into laughter again. No worries, you'll get your stolen goods back soon enough. Second time you speak to him, he asks if you've come to find the Red Dragon. He tells you that the only way to get to his volcano is by flying. Third time you speak, he says that he's heard of ways to fly through the air, but he doesn't know how to go about it. |
Talk to the barkeep after you finish with Laike. He'll welcome Kyle and Kyle will explain the nature of your stolen goods problem. Kyle asks the barkeep if he can enter the Thieves' Guild to check out their stolen merchandise and retreive the White Dragon Wings, but the barkeep says he can't allow that; but, if Kyle were a guild member then he might--as guild members aren't allowed to steal from other members. In order to become one, however, you need to pass an examination. The examiner is in Meryod right now; so, Meryod must be your next stop. |
6.2) MERYOD FOREST - Dark and Misty
Dungeon Items:
2000S (2), Lucky Band, Money Seed, Fam Tiara
Meryod is the city in the upper-right part of the map, but to get there you need to pass through the forest. There's a spring just south of the forest you can also enter that has a card dealer there (explanation of this guy is in the Secrets - Cards section) but all the cards you can trade with him now are of monsters in the Meryod Forest anyway. Enter Meryod Forest--this place has some really good items so be sure to search around. First, go a little right then head north to find a chest with 2000S. Then, continue northwest along the path to find a Lucky Band. Return to the entrance; from there, go west to find a chest with the Money Seed--equip it on someone now as it increases silver gained from each battle. Continue all the way west to find 2000S at the end. From there, go all the way north and then east; when you see the path going back north, take it north a little bit and right before the exit, hidden behind some trees on the right, is a chest with the Fam Tiara for Mia. From here, continue north and make your exit. |
6.3) MERYOD - City of Bridges
Once you exit the forest, Meryod is the next city over. Upon entering, Kyle mentions that they should try to find the examiner here; but, he's got to leave for some "personal business" to attend to. Rather than following him, go inside the southernmost boat and talk to the guy dressed in green at the back. He'll tell you that the Guild Examiner should be at the bar. With this information, go up to the north side of town and enter the tavern boat. You'll find Kyle in there slightly on the drunk side. He's been speaking with the supposed examiner who said what he needs to do is get into Damon's Spire. Damon's Spire is to the south of Meryod Forest, and Kyle hands you a note from the examiner for Damon and rejoins the party. |
6.4) DAMON'S SPIRE - Double Jeopardy
Dungeon Items:
[Floor 1] Mental Gum (2), Glasses
[Floor 2] Get Scope, Mental Gum
[Floor 3] Sorcery Robe, Brave Band
[Floor 4] Cat Ears, Ice Pendant
Leave Meryod and go back through Meryod Forest. Once you exit on the other side, go to the big tower to the south (you can enter the card trader's spring if you want, since you should have a few cards to trade now). Once you enter Damon's, a voice asks you for the password to enter. Mia takes a look at the note you received and reads aloud: "I like a gift of light". The door opens. |
To progress through each floor, you have to hit the switches on the ground and pass through a maze of doors. For Floor 1, go all the way up to the doorway at the top, hit the switches and walk through. Get the chest with a mental gum at the top of this room. Go to the right, hit the switch, and enter the next room. Go down into the next room and get the chest with glasses there. Go down and hit the switch. From this room, hit the switch and go left, then continue left across the hallway into the room at the other end. At the left side of the room is another chest with a mental gum. Now, go up to the doorway in the middle of this room and Damon will send you a message that to progress, you must answer this question: What did the Goddess Althena set as the origin of this world in its creation? The rest will discuss who might know the answer, leaving you with two choices: 1) I'll let Nash try, or 2) Mia, of course. For this, choose #2, as Mia will give the correct answer of "magic". |
Walk up to the second floor. Go to the right, hit the switch, and walk into this room. Hit the switch on the upper side of this room. Now, go back to the left room, then go all the way up two more rooms, hit the switch on the right and enter the door. Get the chest with a Get Scope in the upper-right corner of this room--equip this and you'll more frequently get items after battles. Go back left and all the way down to the entrance, then go all the way right through two rooms. Go straight up and hit the switch, then get the mental gum in the chest in the upper-left corner of this room. Continue up into the next room and approach the door. You'll be then asked by Damon the next question: One who relies on power will likely be destroyed by power (Kyle interrupts angered by this, quieted by Jessica), but, one who can control power can avoid that; so, what can control power? Now you can choose either 1) I'll let Kyle answer this, or 2) Let's hear Nash's answer. If you want to get it right, choose #2, and Nash will answer with "skill". |
Go down and hit the first switch there. Continue to the next room to the south and get the chest with a Sorcery Robe on the right side. Then, hit the switch on the west and continue to the next room. There, hit the switch on the north side, then continue west through the next door. In this room, get the chest with a Brave Band on the west. Go north and hit the switch in that room. Go back south one room and west one room; from here go north through the door that was closed before and approach the exit door. Here Damon will ask you the next question, or request: "Who is the one person who has been the most useless in coming here? Offer him up as a hostage!" You'll have two choices: 1) Offer a hostage, or 2) I can't do that. If you want to continue, then choose #2 and don't offer up anyone. Continue up to the next floor. |
On this floor, first go west and in the next room get the Cat Ears on the north side. Then, go south and hit the first switch you see. Go back east and continue to the next room. Get the Ice Pendant on the north side of this room. Now go south and hit the next switch you see. From here go one more room west and you'll see a door; standing in front of it is a man. Talk to him; Mia will ask what's wrong and he tells rudely them to go away. He then notices that Jessica is a priestess and asks her to heal him. You're asked what to do: 1) Let him be, or 2) Help him out. If you want to continue, pick #2 and help him out, and he'll open the door for you in return. Continue up to the next floor. |
The fifth floor is no problem. Go north, hit the switch, and in the next room go west and hit that switch. Back up to the entrance again and go to the west room. Damon will tell you that to open the last door, you must show him a treasure--but not an ordinary one, one that cannot be seen by the eye. Mia figures it to be a song, and so Alex plays his ocarina. The door opens and you can continue on into Damon's room. |
Walk up to Damon and he'll begin speaking. First thing he does is give you a book: Heart of the Thief; Nall reads off a few chapter headings. Damon then asks he is Alex, the one wishing to become Dragonmaster. He advises him to take a look at all the books in his library, as they will be of use. Damon finally advises you to return to Reza and return the book to the Guildmaster there. He also adds that this is the last time you will come to his tower; it is no longer necessary to seek him for answers. |
6.5) REZA - Thieves' Guild Initiation
Exit Damon's Spire and head back to Reza. Enter the bar and go to the back to speak with the barkeep--that's the Guildmaster, by the way. He'll congratulate you on retrieving the Heart of the Thief and give you a Guild Card. Now you're a member of the Thieves' Guild. He lets you know that now you can open anything that previously required a key (this means all red treasure chests). The barkeep will open up the door to enter the Thieves' Bazaar (behind the counter) and tells you your treasure--the White Dragon Wings--is probably back there. Head up and grab the treasure chest on the side on the way for a heal drop. |
Go through the hallway and take the exit to the south. You'll pass Lily's room, the daughter of the Guildmaster, on your way to the Thieves' Bazaar. Talk to her if you wan't, but it's not necessary. Continue south to the bazaar and talk to the guy just to the right of the entrance, the one who stole the wings. He'll try to sell the stolen wares to them first, but then recognizes everyone. Saying he's not giving anything back, Kyle then lets him know just who he is; since Kyle's reputation extends quite far you get your White Dragon Wings back with no problem--he even throws in a Mental Gum just to be safe. Talk to the guy on the red carpet in the bazaar and upgrade your armor there: 2 Metal Plates, 2 Metal Shields, 2 Metal Helms for Alex and Kyle; 2 Intelli Robes for Nash and Mia; and 2 Crystal Wrists for Mia and Jessica. |
After this, go back up. When you pass by Lily's room this time, though, you hear Royce's voice trying to coerce Lily into coming along with her. You'll confront her. Lily's father, the Guildmaster and barkeep, charges in, but Royce disappears with Lily before anyone can do anything. She comes back saying she forgot to tell your fortune before she left: Alex will never become Dragonmaster as he wishes--and after the White soul shall follow a Red light. She disappears once more and Nall insists that you hurry to the Red Dragon before he is captured as well. Before you leave, the Guildmaster stops you and begs Kyle to help rescue Lily. He tells you that someone wants to speak with them about getting to the Red Dragon Cave. |
Enter the bazaar again and speak with a guy on the left side walking around. He'll tell you that the only way to get to the Red Dragon Cave is by air, but there's a man in Iluk who's building a flying machine. He gives you blueprints he stole from someone named Shiela and asks you to return them to him--he just may be able to help you out. |
Now, leave the Thieves' Guild and Go Red Treasure Chest Hunting! Now that you have the Thieves' Card, you can go back and open up the red treasure chests you passed on your way here. I have a list of all of them here so check it out and make sure to get them all. There are some really good items you can get; pick them all up, but at least make sure to grab the: Magical Stick, Thunder Blade, Magic Ring, Coral Tiara, and Dream Knuckle at least (and everything else you can get at this point, except the Bunny Suit). Also, by now you should have over 80000S; so, go back to Vane and buy some Wind Boots for Alex or Kyle (both if you can afford it). Now, warp back to the Marius Zone and go to Iluk. |
6.6) ILUK - Town of Outcasts
Iluk is the southernmost city on the map of the Marius Zone; go there. Shiela's house is the northernmost one in town, with the big deflated balloon right outside on the patio. Enter and speak to him and you'll return his balloon plans. He thanks you tremendously and introduces himself as the inventor Shiela. Nall asks if they can use his balloon once it's completed to go to the volcano to the west, so that they can enter the Red Dragon Cave. He agrees but says that his engine can't be completed just yet until he can get a Fluffy Bug. There are a few in the orchard north of town, but he can never get his hands on one as they always run away. Jessica tells him they'll obtain one, and Shiela tells you to speak with the owner of the orchard to open the gate. |
Leave Shiela's house and go to the staircase just to the west that leads underground to another laboratory. This is the guy who owns the orchard. Speak to him and he'll give you permission to enter the orchard as you please; he'll mention that there are some red switches around, but you'll understand what to do when you see them. Leave the lab and go north to the gate. Check the gate--with another big red arrow pointing to it--and it'll open up so you can enter. |
6.7) ORCHARD - Find the Fluffy Bug
Dungeon Items:
Heal Ring, Spirit Guard, Crystal Guard, 3000S
The orchard is quite an odd place. You can use the red springs to vault around (hit the A button while you're on the red buttons). First, to to the right and continue until you see your first red switch; hit it, bounce up, and continue a little north to find a useful Heal Ring. Go back down to the entrance. Now, head directly north until you find another red switch; use this to bounce onto the island, then take the switch on the left side to bounce to the west. Pick up the Spirit Guard inside that chest (I suggest equipping it on Kyle). From here, go a little west then head south (don't hit the Fluffy Bug yet if you see it off to the west). At the next little clearing, go west and in the corner there pick up a Crystal Guard for Nash. Now, go back a little bit east and head north to the clearing you were just in. Off to the west of this clearing, open another chest for 3000S. |
Up in the northwesternmost corner here you should find a pink bug hopping around. That's a Fluffy Bug. Go and check it; Nall will wonder if this is the Fluffy Bug you're looking for and you'll step into battle. After you defeat the Fluffy Bug and two Puffy Bugs you'll capture the Fluffy Bug (side note: sometimes I wonder if the FBI has my laptop bugged, they must be reading that last line and wonder what the hell I'm talking about); they shouldn't be hard, as one of Alex's techniques should wipe all three out. Once you acquire what you came for, you can leave the orchard. |
6.8) ILUK - I Want to Fly Away
Return to Iluk and go back to Shiela's house to give him the Fluffy Bug. Talk to him and he'll thank you tremendously for the bug, the last part he needs for the balloon. He tells you it'll still take one more night to complete the machine, and you're free to stay at his place that night. Morning comes, and he says that by his calculations the balloon could fly clear into the Frontier, so the Red Dragon Volcano is no problem. Now you can choose what to do, either: 1) Well, let's go!, 2) Hold on a bit. Choose #1 to continue on your way. |
6.9) RED DRAGON CAVE - Is It Hot in Here?
Dungeon Items:
[Floor 3] Mental Gum (3)
[Floor 4] Mental Gum (2)
[Floor 5] Flame Sword, Rainbow Tiara, Fire Orb, Barrier Ring, Angel Ring, Barbary Guard, Dog Bone, Amethyst
You'll fly into the Red Dragon Cave easily and touch down in the volcano. Now, here is where you want to be careful: you can't turn back and go to the town until you've met the Red Dragon--and, once you've left the cave after that, you won't be able to return. So be sure to do everything you want to while you're here. Anyway, inside, there's a merchant (getting tons of business of course) selling the usual Heal Drops and Mental Gums. Go north from him to the second floor to hear someone addressing Alex, saying that he must show his bravery if he wishes to pass the trial of the Red Dragon; the Dragon itself will be waiting in the back of the Volcano. Go south and continue to the third floor already. |
Here's where it gets trickier. From this entrance, go immediately right and north to the top; get the Mental Gum here. Now, go west and take the next passage south; continue southwest and open the next chest you see for another Mental Gum. Go north then turn west--go past the door and take the next path all the way north for another Mental Gum. Now back up and go through the door you passed up. On the next floor, go southwest then south to find another Mental Gum. Now go a little northwest then straight north for another Mental Gum. Now continue northwest to go to the fifth floor. Once on this floor, go immediately right then north to northwest around to find a chest with a Flame Sword (don't equip it until you're out of this dungeon). Head back to the entrance, and from there go southeast to get a Rainbow Tiara for Jessica. Go back to the entrance again and from there go southwest to find another chest with a Fire Orb (don't equip this in this dungeon, either). Now from here go northwest then west to find another chest with a Barrier Ring. Now go directly south to find two more chests with an Angel Ring and Barbary Guard. Now, go all the way north to find Royce. |
Royce has no intention of letting you past, but instead of fighting you herself she unleashes her pet dogs. I suggest for the first turn to have Alex cast Kiai, Nash cast Charge or Thunder Rain, Jessica cast Protect Litany if she has it, and Kyle cast Heat Up. Thereafter, have Alex cast Sword Dance, Nash cast Shupel Glome, Mia cast Blizzard, Kyle use his Shine Sword if possible and then just attack, and Jessica heal as necessary. Keep this up until one enemy is down, then switch Nash to Riot and Mia to Freeze Blow. It shouldn't be too long (took me 5-6 turns), but if necessary then use a Mental Gum to refill MP. Royce is impressed, but says her work is now done and bails; she warps back in briefly to give you another "fortune": the red light you seek no longer shines, as a black arm has sealed it all in darkness. Nash and Mia suspect the "red light" could be the Red Dragon. So, you'd better hurry. |
Before you continue, grab the chest to your right for a Dog Bone, and the chest beside the door up north for an Amethyst. Go through the door to meet the Red Dragon. As you approach the dragon, she tells you that her physical form has already been destroyed; what you see is left behind long enough to impart to you information, after which she will vanish. She tells you that until 15 years ago she was in hibernation until a strong, magical song awoke her. The Red Dragon asks Alex to come forward and says that he has successfully passed her trial; he has the ability to protect whom he loves and vanquish evil. She entrusts to Alex the future of Dyne and Althena's dream. She then transports you back to where you entered the cave, giving Nall one last message to remember: his soul is undying, and he will soon meet his own destiny. Her voice fades out. Jessica then points out that you have a new piece of equipment: the Red Dragon Shield. Equip this now and leave the cave via the balloon. |
