Chapter 8: The Mysterious New Student
Chapter 8: The Mysterious New Student

I am Barua, Mistress of the Dark Castle D. Senia has already returned to her home village to live with Azu. Ellie and Lena are still staying in Ien.
The chapter begins with a new student wandering through town. Empty. He's apparently going through the same trial that you did on your first day; but when he reaches the plaza, a strange woman appears. She says that he's been deceived, and she'll just take him as her slave. She introduces herself as Barua, the mistress of the Dark Castle D. She's part of the Vile Tribe, and she offers to "release" this student's hidden powers.

Meanwhile, back in the dorms, Lena is a bit frustrated at Senia's returning home, but kind of wishes she could find someone like Senia did. Anyway, enough of that; Lena suggests that they take a break and go shopping. Most of the folks in the dorms and in town talk about Senia's getting married, by the way, but Layla (same floor as you in the dorm) and the girl in the dorm's foyer mention a new student walking around campus.

I hope this entrance examination goes by without any problems. Anyway, first thing to do is to check with all the professors to see if you can learn any new spells. At this point, you may be able to get spells from Iason, Emma, and Steel. Note that now, Emma and Steel are on the second floor of the office building, in the eastern room, around the table where they're observing more new students taking the entrance examination.

I've come to punish the arrogant magicians on the island of Ien. When you're done, go to the plaza just south of the office building. You'll find the new student there; talk to him. He says that his name is Wing, and he's from Caldor Island. Lena asks if he's new--but new students should be taking the entrance exam right now; Wing replies that he's come to Ien to punish the conceited magicians there. He then attacks Ellie and runs off. Lena heals her up.

Th.. tha... that guy... He... m... ma... made me speechless! Leave the plaza. You'll see that the town was completely razed. You can talk to the professors and students outside who comment on the strange, powerful magic that suddenly did this, and the new student. Anyway, exit the town and you'll see Wing fighting a monster a little ways away--Ellie wants to go help, Lena wants to chase down Wing. Run up to where you say the monster and you'll get into a battle. Defeat the three monsters and Lena will say that it looked like Wing was heading towards the island to the east.

Well then, Ellie, we'll just have to put him in his place. Continue due east directly from here. You'll see Wing on the bridge; talk to him again and he repeats that his name is Wing, he's from Caldor Island, and he came to punish the arrogant magicians in Ien. Lena and Ellie have to fight him here. During the battle, Wing will be hard to hit. After a few rounds, an older man named Glen will appear. Have Ellie and Lena keep healing, while Glen uses his fourth magic spell, Soirée. Two or three rounds should suffice to defeat him.

It's not shaking, but... to put it simply, it's crossing through a rift in time. After the battle, Lena thanks the old man for his help. The old man says it's been a long while since "fresh" students have come there. His island had been following Ien, but he came outside here when he heard a lot of noise being made. Lena says what Wing did to the town of Ien; but Glen clarifies that this boy is being controlled. Glen suggests to take the boy back to his cabin to rest. The boy's been cursed by the Vile Tribe, it seems. As they speak, the area begins to shake--it wasn't an earthquake, Glen says, but a disturbance in time. Before Lena can get a better explanation, Glen points out that the Vile Tribe's castle is coming their way.

[no dialogue] The castle comes right up to Glen's island. It's the Dark Castle D, the Vile Tribe's stronghold, explains Glen. The Vile Tribe is at the top of the castle, and so Ellie and Lena join with Glen to ascend the Dark Castle D. (Glen has a lot of MP, and his second spell, Ho!, is an area attack that will usually kill all enemies. So use him as much as you'd like.)

On the first floor, first go west, take the bottom path to continue west further, then go north, west at the intersection, north, then west at the four-way intersection (the door you might see doesn't lead anywhere important yet). Then go south, and continue south for a Rest Potion. Go back up, continue west, go south, and at the corner take that path north. Keep going and take the first path east, continue along this way to see a chest with a Water of Light. After getting the chest, back up and go east all the way, then north when you hit the wall again. Follow this path to the next floor.
On the second floor, go directly south from the entrance, continue south past the intersection, then go east. From there, take the first path south, ignore any passageways off to the east, and continue until you see a treasure chest with a Water of Protection inside. From the chest, cotinue directly east to get to the next floor.

This boy will be happier near me than at Ien. On the third floor, go straight up from the entrance and you'll find Barua. A few words are exchanged--Glen: "You're just as lovely as ever, Barua.", Barua: "Glen! So you're still alive.". No time to chat, though; Barua summons Wing back (who's conscious again). Long story short, she intends on controlling Wing and keeping him for her own use, to destroy Ien. Wing offers to get rid of the girls and Glen for Barua, and it's another fight. This won't be difficult; use Glen's Soirée spell a couple of times (the fourth on his list) and he'll be done for. Barua gets upset, and she attacks you herself. Defeat her the same way with Glen's Soirée spell, and she'll be done. After her defeat, she says that she hasn't given up on Wing, and escapes.

Huh? Oh, that's right. The Vile Tribe. They suddenly showed up. Afterwards, Wing regains consciousness. He's back to normal, and the last thing he remembers is someone from the Vile Tribe appearing. He knows he was looking for Ien, though. Lena explains what happened, and Glen asks the girls to make sure to look after him, but take him to Steel first. Steel was Glen's student a long while ago. Lena tells Wing that they'll take him back to town, and Glen offers to transport them back. The curtain closes with that.
