The headmaster introduces himself as Steel and welcomes both Lena and Ellie into the academy. He explains that in order to begin their study of magic they'll first need to find a professor, but they can choose whomever they want. It's not necessary, but you can talk to the rest of the people in the building and in town to find out various things about the professors and the academy. There are three significant things to take away from this: (a) the location and names of the main professors there: Dadis, Iason, Alba, Terena, Ralph, Emma, and Brune (see the Characters page for more); (b) a rumour that the academy's scout is a powerful magician who also teaches some strong magic; and (c) that the professors will teach you magic independently if you're strong enough. You should note now that the only way to learn new magic spells is to speak with professors at the academy after levelling up (the Magic Spells page has more on this). It's a big change from other Lunar games, so hereafter, whenever you finish with a dungeon, I'll be reminding you to check with all the professors in town. |
Now then. Exit the office building. The people walking around in the central plaza (where everyone was meeting beforehand) say more things about some of the professors in town. A quick note about town: all the red-roofed buildings are dorms, offices, or schools; the blue-roofed buildings with signs outside are shops or other special buildings; and the blue-roofed buildings without signs are just houses. Take a look at the Academy page to see a full map of the town and what's where. |
Your first destination should be Terena's School, the one just west of the stream and east of the office building. Terena is the professor for the magic of song. Talk with her (she'll be in front of the piano in the right-hand room) and she'll ask you if you're interested in studying under her. The prompt that comes up says "Yes / No" so choose Yes. She'll sing a bit then ask you to sing the same, as a test. Unfortunately, Lena is... not so good. She tries again and... no improvement. Terena suggests Lena may be tone-deaf. Lena storms out; exit the building and you find her taking out her anger on a tree. Time to move on. |
Your next destination should be Iason's Dojo, in the building just west of Terena's School, over the bridge. When you enter, talk with Iason, the professor of martial-arts magic at the front. He'll again ask if you're interested in studying under him with the "Yes / No" option. Say yes and say that his class is for men only, women have no place since they lack courage. Lena wants to prove themselves, and so asks for the test regardless. Iason says they must go to the bottom of the "Men's Dungeon" located behind the building and slay a monster to get proof of their strength. After the conversation exit the dojo and go to the dungeon entrance just behind the building. Journey as far as you can to try and slay the monster... don't worry, as there's no chance you can succeed. When you fail, you'll come back to Iason, who says to find another professor. Leave, but don't forget to heal yourself! |
Go now to the Ralph's Library. This is directly east of the office building, you'll know it's a library once you enter. Head towards the front and talk with Ralph, the teaacher there. As usual he asks if you want to study and the "Yes / No" prompt comes up; choose yes. Ellie and Lena then become students under Ralph. Lena then asks what kind of magic he'll show them. Ralph tells her to look at a few of the books in the library. Lena asks if books are the only way they'll be learning there. When she finds this is true, she declines to study there. Leave the library then. |
Go now to Brune's Shop just north of the library. This is an herb shop, owned by another professor. Brune is the one in the middle room; talk with him. Lena and Ellie immediately ask to be his students, so Brune starts explaining his shop. It involves gathering dangerous plants, so your hands usually start growing calloused--by that point Lena expresses her strong disinterest and apologizes. This isn't the place for them, so leave the shop.
Keep in mind that Brune's Shop, and a few other places, you can purchase herbs and other items. YOu might want to check out the Items section around this time, but there's no need to buy anything just yet. |
Now go to Alba's Item Shop, just a little bit west from Brune's Herb Shop. Speak with him in the center of the back room, but he'll tell you he's not accepting new students anymore. Leave the item shop then.
Alba's Shop is another place where you can purchase Items. It's also the only place where you can sell the items you have. You might want to get rid of any excess food you have at this point. |
Go now to Dadis's Lab, in the northwest end of town. Inside there should be only one person (unlike if you explored it before). As you enter, the professor, Dadis, asks who you are and introduces himself (yes, him). Ellie and Lena explain they're looking for a professor and introduce themselves. Dadis explains that his is the magic of makeup, so he gives them the entrance test: they must go to his basement and get a magic rock called "Shinsha". The door on the right side of the room leads to the basement; go downstairs from there. The basement has some monsters, but it's a small room so use as much magic as you want. The chest in the southwest corner has the rock; take it and go back upstairs to talk with Dadis again. Dadis asks them who they are, and what they're doing here; Lena has to remind them that a couple minutes ago he sent them to go get something from their basement as a test. With some struggling, Dadis remembers and accepts the two girls as new students. Ellie is a bit concerned, but Lena reassures her. But hereafter, their concerns are only going to increase--with that the curtain closes. |
