Lunar 3

Lunar 3? - November 2004 - Lunar on the DS, Part 1 (pre-Lunar: DS)

EDITORS' NOTES (2013): In 2004, prior to the announcement of Lunar: Genesis / Lunar: Dragon Song for the Nintendo DS, there was a lot of speculation on very sporadic and vague announcements regarding a "new RPG" from GameArts, and a renewal of the "Lunar" trademark/license. Some people were optimistic (such as GhaleonOne), and some people were pessimistic (such as Kizyr). Eventually, it turned out that this would all result in Lunar: DS; unfortunately, this turned out to be a prequel and still is not considered Lunar 3. Although we know all that now, we're keeping the three "pre-DS" articles around for history.

EDITORS' NOTES (2013) - Kizyr: Wow, re-reading this article now I realize I was really way too skeptical...

More recently there has been some talk of a Lunar DS. Back in October 2004, Nintendo of Japan's Nintendo DS release list listed a "LUNAR" title under development from a Marvelous Interactive. There's a small bit at a Japanese site called "Nintendo iNSIDE" that has a page for this game. Originally this information popped up on Lunarhope.com, and even there they still don't know what the game actually is. It's now being referred to as "LUNA Lunar", and is almost certainly NOT a new Lunar game from our beloved series. I'm not saying it's not, but from what Kizyr gathered over at LunarHope, it's likely not related to our series. Rumors also began flying from this, and a news story on GamesAreFun and even a rumor in the magazine GMR came about. If there is any hope for a new LUNAR, put your money on that untitled GameArts RPG for the DS that's also on Nintendo of Japan's DS release list, because it's likely not the Marvelous Interactive "LUNAR". There's been a number of posts on this subject here on our forums. To finish up here, I'll quote Kizyr from one of the specific threads on this subject:

"It's more complicated than that. LUNA is only the name given on the DS site, along with .ru.na. in katakana. LUNAR is what it's called on Marvelous Interactive's site, along with the same .ru.na. in katakana. LUNAR is trademarked by Game Arts; .ru.na. is trademarked by Kadokawa Holdings. There's no record of them having sold the trademark or allowing anyone else to use the name. That's why it's really unlikely that LUNAR is even the final name of Marvelous Interactive's game -- much less that it has anything to do with the Lunar series at all.

We've had this topic for over a month now on LunarHope's MB. There's little point in any further speculation until Marvelous Interactive releases more info about this title, and Game Arts says something about their "New RPG" for the DS. KF"
