Chapter 1: An Invitation from the Magic Academy

We open during harvest time in Ellie and Lena's home village of Burg. Ellie is helping Lena pick apples, while Lena explains that they should be selling them at Ien, an island which will be arriving at the northern port. How the island "arrives", she has no idea. Just then, she's cut off by her father running into the fields, saying some old man has come to 'sell' the two of them to Ien. The old man shows up, trying to clarify his intentions. He's really come to offer an invitation to Ellie and Lena for the Magic Academy of Ien.

Their families discuss the invitation amongst themselves. Ellie and Lena won't be 'sold', and for all three years their food will be free. Ellie is a bit reserved about the studying, but Lena is happy that it will be more fun than farming, and the food will be free. She also gets excited when her father mentions a neighbor whose son returned from Ien able to command lightning magic. The old man was listening in, but has more work to do with gathering the other students. The curtain closes.
