Lunar: Legend, Section 3

3.1) VANE - About Time

It's a melody that Dyne wrote when he was a child, dreaming of adventure. Nash will waste no time showing you straight to the Magic Guild in the center of town. Once inside, Nash asks Alex and Nall to wait, and he takes Luna to another room to wait until he can get an appointment with Ghaleon. While waiting, she hears a familiar song. Thinking it to be Alex, she exits to find someone playing a lute in the garden. Asking about the song, the man replies that it's one Dyne wrote while on his adventure--Luna recognizes it as the one Alex always played. She's just slightly upset that Alex never mentioned from where he learned the melody. He asks if Luna is a new student, to which she replies that that's not the case: she came with Alex to help him realize his dream of becoming Dragonmaster. He asks if, perhaps, there is something more she is looking for on this adventure that she hasn't noticed--everyone, he explains, undergoes a search for his or her true self, even though few find it. He apologizes if he's said too much then leaves promptly after that. Luna gets a strange feeling from him... and is even slightly scared. Meanwhile, Nall is tired of waiting.

I am Mia... Mia Ausa. And you are? You can explore around the guild if you want, no point in going outside yet. Go upstairs via the entrance on the southwest corner of the guild. Enter the room and you'll run into Mia Ausa, the daughter of Lemilia Ausa, Premier of the Magic Guild. She mistakes you first for her mother's assistants, but then introduces herself and asks what brings you here. She hasn't met anyone from outside the Guild in some time. Nall replies that they're on a quest for Alex to become the next Dragonmaster, and then invites Mia to come along on their adventure. Besides which, she is cute, which Nall apparently likes. He hits on her a little more, but then Nash steps in to spoil all the fun. So jealous he can hardly see straight, he rushes in fuming mad. Mia tells him that they weren't doing any harm, and he apologizes, saying Alex and Nall are simply country folk who can't tell left from right.

Welcome to the Magic Guild, Alex. I am Ghaleon, Councilor. He takes you to Ghaleon's office, about to step in. Luna asks what they were up to; Nall says they met a cute girl named Mia... Now both Nash and Luna are upset. Anyway, you go inside to meet Ghaleon. He introduces himself and welcomes both Alex and Luna to Vane. He says he's heard of Luna's latent magic capabilities and asks if the two of you, rather than looking for the remaining dragons, could study magic here. Alex thanks him for the invitation, but says he has other plans; Ghaleon, knowing of your quest to become Dragonmaster, tells you that near the village of Lann there is said to already be a Dragon and Dragonmaster about. He tells you you should check it out; his assistant will give you all the necessary details. Luna suddenly recognizes Ghaleon's face as the one he saw earlier, but before saying anything Ghaleon simply says he looks forward to hearing her sing sometime. He then goes back to the subject of Luna's magic abilities, asking Luna about just what happened with the Transmission Springs incident. Ghaleon is in agreement with Nash that it demonstrates some magic ability; although Nall insists that she can't use magic and her songs are just powerful, Ghaleon mentions that just because she has magic power does not mean she can use automatically use magic. He then asks Luna to close her eyes and, after a second, her headache is gone. Asking how he did that, Ghaleon replies that it was more so Luna's power to heal herself, not his, that took care of her illness. Now then, you should probably worry about getting to Lann now.

The village of Lann is far to the west of the Transmission Spring, past the Nanza Barrier. Talk to Gazelle, Ghaleon's assistant off to the left, and he'll explain that Lann is past the Nanza Barrier to the West. On your way of Vane out be sure to stop off at all the various shops. If you have over 80000S to burn then get some Wind Boots from the Armor Shop, these things up your attacks by 2 (so Alex could attack four times per turn by now). It's not absolutely necessary now, so don't worry if you can't afford it. Upgrade all your weapons and armor; I recommend a Silver Sword for Alex, Meteor Rod for Nash, Silver Chain for Alex, Magic Robe for Luna, Silver Shield for Alex, 2 Silver Guards for Alex and Nash, and a Flashy Bandanna for Nash. After this, leave south via the transmission spring.

3.2) NANZA BARRIER - Dangerous Pass

Dungeon Items:
[Outdoor Screen 1] Heal Gum, Angel Tear
[Outdoor Screen 2] Para Clean, 100S, Heal Gum
[Outdoor Screen 3] Mental Gum
[After Western Exit] Mental Gum

You don't understand! How are you supposed to go by yourself? First, before you get to the settlement in the Nanza Barrier, you'll have to make your way past the eastern mountain pass. It's entirely straightfoward and the treasure chests along the way mostly have Heal Gums and Angel Tears. Close to the end you'll go through a small tunnel pass. Out the other side you'll run into a couple in argument. The man urges the woman, apparently a young priestess, to return to the Shrine; angry at him, she instead runs off while he follows behind.

Just a little while ago he passed by in a really bad mood. His room is in the basement below town. Continue north and you'll enter the settlement. Talk to the guard and Nash will tell him to open the gate so they can progress through on Magic Guild business. Lann is further west, so they'll have to pass through the other gate on the Western side of town, says Nash. Go to the Western gate and talk to the guard again; he'll say in order to pass through you need the permission of Kyle. Nall asks where Kyle is, and the guard figures that since he's in a bad mood today he's most likely in his own room underground. So, head to one of the towers for the bottom floor; Kyle's room is in the northeast corner.

Ah... we just want to go west to get to Lann. Speak with Kyle there--the same one you saw earlier in an argument with the girl who ran off--and he'll seem pleased to see you. Although, after explaining that the three of you aren't fans, his expression turns back to normal. Nash asks for him to order the western gate open so they can pass through to Lann and Kyle agrees. That was simple enough... Pick up the Soft Knuckle in the treasure chest behind Kyle's bed before you leave.

Ever since Kyle and his men settled this mountain pass, it's become much better Now go back and talk to the western guard; he'll open the gate for you and you can pass through. The pass here is short, so you probably won't even run into a battle. Pick up the Mental Gum on your way through.

3.3) LANN - The Fish Aren't Alright

Have you come to destroy that dragon? Well then, would you like to go with me? Exit Nanza and the next stop you can go to is the village of Lann. Once you enter, you should probably check out the items shop and pick up a Great Frying Pan for Luna. Anyway, if you talk to any of the townspeople you'll hear they've been having problems with a Dragon who's apparently killing off all the fish in the area--which is bad news for the village, and for Nall. Enter the largest house in Lann, close to the entrance, and you'll run into Jessica, that same girl you saw running out on Kyle, making a speech about how she'll take care of whoever it is controlling the Dragon. She explains that a dragon of Althena is never bad, and so she, as a priestess, can resolve the conflict. She notices Alex, and so steps down off the platform to introduce herself and ask if you'd like to join her. She just got out of a fight with some guy and she needs to let off steam, anyway, she says. Nall explains that they were sent here by the Magic Guild on the same task. Jessica asks if they should all go together, to which you can respond: 1) Yes, please, or 2) Hold on.... Unless you want to see Jessica angry, pick #1. You start off together; but before you leave she asks Luna if they've met somewhere before; for some reason she looks familiar. Luna says this must be the first time they've met, so they move on.

Quiet! Stop trying to confuse us! Will you or will you not lend us the boat? Go down to the docks and talk with the boatman in the southwest corner. Nall asks if he's the boatman, to which he replies yes, but he's not carrying anyone across to the island while that Dragon is around. Talk to him again and Nash will order him to let them use the boat, unsuccessfully, after which Jessica steps in and scares the hell out of the boatman enough to where he lets you use his boat, free of charge. You'll climb in and after some talk, be ready to set off. When Jessica asks if they're ready, you can respond: 1) Yep, let's go!, or 2) Hold on.... Choose #1 and you're on your way.

3.4) LANN ISLAND - Dragonmaster Claims

Dungeon Items:
[First Screen] 100S, Fresh Ring
[Second Screen] 600S (3)

If you're really a Dragonmaster, then of course you've met the four dragons, right? Once you reach the island you simply have to make your way north. There's a random guy at the entrance selling healing items; pick some up if you need any. Also, if necessary, you can simply exit south to head back to Lann. Beware of the treasure chests also, as some contain traps of monsters; it's better to trip them anyway, as the enemies aren't too hard. A chest towards the upper-right of the starting point has 100S, and one directly north of the starting point (second one from the top of the first screen) has a Fresh Ring. In the second screen, the first chest you pass has 600S, one all the way to the right of the entrance has 600S, and the next one you find going northeast has 600S. At the top of the second screen you'll find your "Dragonmaster"... camping out. He definitely doesn't look like much of a Dragonmaster, so Nall gives him a little test. He asks which of the four dragons has he met. The "Dragonmaster" replies: "That's easy! White Dragon... Red Dragon... Hot Pink and Silver Dragons!" It's over for him, so he summons up his oddly toad-shaped "Dragon" and attacks you.

Frog Lizard With two healers, the battle should be quite easy. I suggest using Alex's Kiai the first turn; thereafter, attack with Alex's Sword Dance and Nash's Riot (or Thunder Rain if you can). If someone needs healing, use Jessica or Luna; otherwise, have Luna use Power Song on Jessica and have Jessica attack. The Frog Lizard should be down in 8-9 turns (or, just by the time Alex runs out of MP if you're around level 16/17). The "Dragonmaster" gets embarassed once Jessica and Nash point out that the creature was a Frog Lizard, not a dragon... He swears he'll return to his home town and set things right; so, no hard feelings.

3.5) LANN - Goodbye Jessica

We'd heard the rumours of a Dragon and Dragonmaster... After you get back, Jessica thanks you for your help as Phacia runs up. She mentions that she's heard rumours about the Dragonmaster, and is relieved to find that he was a fraud. Here, though, is the first mention of the Magic Emperor--there have been recent rumours about him, too. About here you realise that Jessica is not just a priestess, but one of the priestesses from the main Shrine of Althena. One problem, however: Jessica's never seen her before, and in only the few months since she's been gone it makes no sense that someone without even a presence at the Shrine would become its head. But, now that she's found, she's going to have to return back to the Shrine. So, she says her final good-byes and runs off.

3.6) VANE - Return to Ghaleon

You are the boy searching for the dragons to become the next Dragonmaster? Now that your task is taken care of, make your way back through Nanza and the Transmission Springs to return to Vane. Once there, enter the Magic Guild and go right and upstairs to Ghaleon's room. Talk with his assistant and he'll tell you Ghaleon is in the main hall downstairs. Head back to the entrance and enter the main room. Ghaleon is in the back, speak with him and Nash tells him the mission has been accomplished. Ghaleon announces that Lemia Ausa, Premier of the Guild, wishes to address them; she, along with Mia, enters the room and introduces herself, asking if Alex is the one trying to become Dragonmaster. Then, in a threatening twist, she tells Alex he can't deceive her, accuses him of trying to harm the Goddess Althena and Magic Guild, and orders the guards in. Ghaleon protests, but Lemia turns back saying matters are too important to argue with her. Next thing you know, Alex is in prison listening to some strange character in the neighboring cell. Mia and Nall come in to release Alex, Mia apologizing for the actions of her mother and trying to explain that she wasn't always like this. Suspecting something is up, she retrieved Althena's Orb, a magic orb that nulls any disguise- or control-related magic, and wants Alex to accompany her to confront Lemia. Meanwhile, the strange character in the neighboring cell starts stuttering out something about the Vile Tribe.

Ma... Magic Emperor! S..t..a..r.. Cham... ber... Check out the neighboring cell and free the woman inside. You'll find a woman in some kind of mask (not an iron one) who appears to be unable to think straight. She continues saying Vile Tribe and screams something about the Magic Emperor. Mia explains that she heard about the Vile Tribe from her mother--a group that rebelled and was banished by Althena long ago--but the Magic Emperor is a new name to her. The strange woman then barely makes out the words "Star Chamber". The Star Chamber is in the upper floor of the Crystal Tower, a part of the Magic Guild, explains Mia. And so you're off.

That... I... For Mia I... um... Mia is now in your party. There's not much to equip on her, but you should step outside and buy a Meteor Rod and Platinum Wrist for her. After that, go back to the Guild and take the long hallway north just right of the main hallway and try to enter the door. Nash will stop you and run up, telling Mia that he's going to go with them. Mia asks him to reconsider, since if Lemia found him she'd try to kill him; but, replies Nash, the same would happen to Mia. Nash tries to stutter out something about it being for Mia's sake, but falters and moves on. Mia thanks him and Nash is now in your party.

3.7) CRYSTAL TOWER - No Firing Zone

Dungeon Items:
[Floor 2] Boost Coil
[Floor 4] 1000S
[Floor 5] Mental Gum
[Floor 8] Angel Ring, 1500S

Only the Dragonmaster who protects Althena can enter armed! Enter the doorway now and you'll enter the Crystal Tower. After a flash, Mia remembers that since the Crystal Tower was intended for only Dragonmasters to be able to enter, anyone else who comes in can't use weapons. Although Alex can't use magic, his sword techniques he may be able to perform without a sword, which would be good enough to get him through. So, after the dialogue is over, immediately de-equip all your weapons for the three of your characters. The crystal tower is just slightly difficult because of this "magic only" rule. Alex can still attack normally, but Nash and Mia are too weak for that. But, after you de-equip Mia and Nash you'll have two magic staffs in your inventory (you should have the 2 Meteor Rods by now). During battle, you can select these from the items menu and use them on enemies like a normal attack.

We still don't know; let's make her sing a little more Now, most of the dungeon itself is pretty simple. Pick up the Boost Coil in the first chest on the second floor and equip it on Nash. On the fourth floor pick up the 1000S in the chest. Take the right doorway and pick up the Mental Gum on the other side. Backtrack and take the other doorway to continue, and take the passage on the bottom-right. Take the upper-left passage and walk through the next floor to find an Angel Ring. Backtrack two floors and take the right passage this time. Take the passage through the bottom wall to get 1500S; then turn back and take the door in the middle of the floor. Once you get near the top it'll cut to a scene of Luna, with Ghaleon, Lemia, Phacia, and Royce around her, the latter two urging her to sing to figure out if she's the one they've been looking for.

And we would've taken all of Vane, too, if it wasn't for you meddling kids! Continue north. You'll hear Luna singing, but she sounds so lost and alone. The mystery woman you're with (if you forgot about her), her memory returns a little bit upon hearing the song. Heal up now and go through the doorway to enter the Star Chamber. Mia confronts Lemia and the others with you and uses the magic of the Althena's Orb. The strange woman in the mask turns back into her original self: the true Lemia Ausa; angered at this, the false one reveales her true identity as Xenobia--along with Phacia and Royce who finally show their true colors as the leaders of the Vile Tribe. The trio disappears and sends a small (weak) band of demons after you. They should be no problem to take care of (even with similar tactics as you used in the tower).

Piper Because there are three, a few of your spells are going to be more useful. Have Alex use Kiai on the first turn and then Sword Dance on one enemy at a time; have Nash use Riot on the upper two enemies and Mia use Flame Circle on the front two. After the first enemy goes down, have Mia switch to using Freeze Arrow instead and just take out the remainder one at a time. It should be about 6-7 turns.

If you would, I'd like to ask you to guide me... After you deal with the imps, you'll return to the main hall again with Ghaleon. Being distressing times, and considering the tumultuous events that've taken place, Ghaleon asks Alex if he could take him to see the White Dragon. Perhaps Quark will have a plan or be able to offer some advice as to how to handle the problem of the Vile Tribe, Ghaleon says. Jumping at the chance to return to visit Burg once again, Nall loves the idea and they accept. Ghaleon then confers responsibility of running the guild to Mia while her mother's recovering; Mia then asks Nash to help her. The two of them leave, as does Ghaleon who tells Alex that he'll be going ahead and to meet him at Mel's Mansion in Meribia. So back to the port town it is. (Don't forget to re-equip Alex before you leave town.)
